Artemis Director's Viewfinder App Reviews

Essential

I use this app every time I scout a location. Its the best way to convey visual ideas quickly whether to a seasoned director or a person who is new to making their film. The choice of cameras and lenses is extensive and since its on your iPhone its always in your pocket ready to go. If you buy the add-on case and lenses its even better.

Crash

Hi. After last update, app crashes every time, when I wanted to choose camera on favorite kits. IOs 9...

Good for work but….

Pretty slow reaction time when you take a photo, and REALLY needs to be able to record video

Latest Version

I have been using this app for a little while now and I absolutely love it!! Unfortunately, the other day I went to use the app and for some reason I could not get the app to open. I searched around and checked for an update and I have the latest version so there is no update available that could fix the problem. I very much so enjoy this app and intend on continuing my use of it but will not be able to unless I can open the app!! If there is anything that I am missing or need to look for or do, please let me know!! Thanks!!

Nice for some things

This little app works quite well, I havent had any crashes yet myself. Also just so you know it (logically) cant get any wider than your iPhone camera so it just shows arrows outside of the picture where it cant show on the widest lenses.

Need iPhone 5 update

This is a great app. Please be the first to let us use the full screen of the new iPhone. Agree that iPad version pricing is unfair to existing users. But iPhone 5 update will be huge.

iPhone 5 update ASAP

Great app but seriously need this update fast! Every other app had update for iPhone 5 wish you would too

Pretty slick!

Works great… easily worth the $30.00. Heres a suggestion: I like that the Title is constant as set in the metadata section. But I would like to add a few notes to each picture… master, cross, special, etc… maybe up to 100 characters. So, in Preview Photo mode, there should be a button that opens a comments field and the keyboard. This should be store with the metadata and seen at the bottom of the photo. Can do? Thanks!

wasnt wrkg right but fixed!

had a problem with new update not saving photos BUT chemical wedding tech support was great - they figured it out in 2 emails. basically after install say yes to "location svcs" prompt ot got to settings - privacy - location svcs and turn on artemis location svcs so that photos are saved with gps data - small price to pay for useful tool - mining data from me --- eh another separate issue - not too bothered by it for now

Help me

Can someone explain why I cant save pics directly to my camera roll. Do I really have to go into the artemis image bank and save to camera roll each time I want a still? Thanks.

Thank you

Great app

Warning!

I scouted a location with this app. That worked. But when I tried to export the photos to my mac, the software keeps crashing. So now there is no way to get these photos into my presentation that I have tomorrow morning. So Im fxxxed. So be careful with this new version and dont save the photos to that image folder. Get it to save it to your normal iPhone library.

Well made but sluggish

This is a useful tool for scouting locations and for directors working with a DP on set. Its a very full-featured app which is great - in theory. The +/- buttons for switching lenses are tricky to tap. I miss about half the time because theyre so small. When I do successfully tap a button, it takes my iPhone 5 a second to respond and sometimes registers 2 taps since it seemed like the first one didnt register. Artemis is a nice little helper when necessary but if you are a real director doing real gigs, get a real viewfinder.

New PDF function incredible tool

Artemis has always been a great app. You can quickly frame up a shot, change lens lengths, and save the photo for later. But the ability to quickly create PDFs has taken it to another level. On a recent job, I was scouting without the director. I was able to snap frames, annotate them, create a PDF of my idea for coverage for that location, and email them to the director. Just awesome. Moreover, when I had a problem with the app loading on my IPad, I was able to communicate with the designer rapidly to work out the issue. If only all Apps were this good ...

Very useful app on iPhone

I have been using the iPhone version of this app since it first came out and find it one of the most useful and well constructed I have, well worth the $30 purchase price.

Fantastic

Couldnt live without it. Wish the buttons during viewing mode were more sensitive but if thats the biggest complaint it really isnt one.

Have a DSLR, a bunch of lenses, and shoot video? GET THIS APP

This is one of my favorite and most useful tools/apps on my iPhone. Ive used it on everything from commercials, documentaries, and short films. It helps save time on location by previewing FOV without having to change lens after lens after lens. If you have a bunch of prime lenses, this will help you see which one to use for the look and feel you are after. Not only does it have presets, it also allows you to customize, which has been very helpful too. I cant live without this amazing app now. Whenever I pack my cameras, I make sure I bring this along too. Lastly, I have owned the app for years now and the developers have kept updating and improving on it. Without this app, youre just wasting you time on location!

This app is amazing!

I use this App non stop when I am shooting and have grown to love it. It is essential during prep, where i used to have to crop my photos in photoshop after every scout. I can email the images or create PDFs, which include lens and location, immediately during the scout. I cant remember how I used to scout before I had this... During a shoot it is also invaluable. I can show the crew or director the shot without having to guess if they are framing it with the viewfinder the same way that I intended. We can stand around and look the frame together and discuss before bringing in the real camera. This app gets so much use its on the main dock of my phone.

Ok, too expensive

The app works ok on the iPhone but cannot represent wide lenses and even more so on the iPad. For the limited functionality it offers it is way over priced.

Perfect

I am a filmmaker and use this app all the time on location scouts and now even on set for picking lenses.
